| Hello - I'm new to the forum and genealogy so any help is gratefully received. So far from Census records I can find that my Smith line goes back to Ossett in 1783 - John Smith. The line then goes Jesse Smith (Ossett 1818)- Fred (Ossett 1858) - Walter Smith (born in Chickenley nr Ossett 1886), Frank Smith (born in Greetland nr Halifax in 1914), Walter Smith (Greetland 1941) - Me - Martin Smith (born in Halifax 1969).
Does anyone have any data pertaining to a John Smith born in Ossett cum Gawthorpe in or around 1783 (long shot I know but ....)
Also my great grandfather (Walter) was the 3rd son of Joseph. The first was William and the 2nd was George As far as I know all 3 served in the great war. Walter died but what happened to William and George?
Thanks,
Martin |

How's it going with your Smiths of Ossett research? Hope all is going well for you. Have you found anything else new yet?
Was just reading through your post, and have I got this right? .......
Your great grandfather was Walter, born in 1886? and you mention that Walter was the third son of Joseph. So I'm just wondering - was Joseph the son of Fred (b. Ossett 1858)?
Look forward to any updates from you some time Martin Good luck and chat again soon.
