Howdy again Weldon,

Keep us informed how its going with your Yorkshire Smiths & Pitts research, won't you?

In view of your Welsh connections, have also put a copy of this on the "Smith & Related Surnames -Other UK Counties"Board,
here >SMITHs Yorkshire & NEWBIEs Wales, both to America 17thC>>>
So you might want to click on "Watch Topic for replies" at the bottom right underneath each of these two Topics

Chat again soon, wave

Hello melba788101

It’s nice to see a new name and a fellow American on the Smith Chat Forums. I look forward to any response you may have to my Beagle Log postings. Please feel free to comment on, add to the topic, provide pictures personal experience, etc.

My "Smiths" and other ancestors are all New Englanders. Most of my ancestral roots migrated from England in the 1600's.

Hi Lyn,
nice to see you, hope all is going Ok for you. Your message here reminded me that Weldon's original posting in May was still on the Introductions Board (with the copy here). I've now swapped them around - so as above is the original, so hopefully Weldon should receive a notification about your reply here. Hope so - cos that's interesting!!

Bye for now,
Carole wave

Weldon says, "My ancestors are:
Andrew Smith and Olive Pitt came to America 1677 from Farsley (Yorkshire) England".
I greet my new-found cousin Weldon with the comment that I have a great file of genealogy on the couple and their descendants, and co-administer a website on the subject, and regret with others that neither I nor any of the many excellent researchers dealing with our Smith family have found an actual connection between West New Jersey Colony and Yorkshire.
The popular putative line identifies Andrew of New Jersey as the son of another Andrew born 17 Jul 1619 in Farsley, Calverley Parish, [Leeds], West Riding, Yorkshire, England, marrying 17 Apr 1643 a spouse yet unidentified, and dying in Farsley 16 May 1671.
Our Andrew is first noted in West New Jersey Colony with his daughter Elizabeth's birth 9 Feb 1679 at the Burlington Monthly Meeting of Quakers! And, later in a surveyor's diary: on January 20, 1681, Thomas Revel surveyed for Peter Fretwell "above the ffals of Dellaware" (Hopewell), and 200 acres for Andrew SMITH "at the ffalls (Trenton)."
There are a number of intriguing indicators of a Yorkshire connection, but as of yet no 'Golden Spike' uniting the lines of East and West.

It's wonderful to discover that the Smiths of Farsley continued into the 19th century!
