Summary of Interests/Message I was born in Middleton in 1941 and emigrated to Australia with my wife and son in 1964. My Grandmother was a Smith and I was intrigued when I saw a mention of a Lucy Whitehead/Smith posted by Dennis. She was my Grandmothers sister in law.
I have traced my Smith family to John Smith born abt 1820 in Middleton Lancs according to the 1861 & 1881 census.
John married Sarah Ann Bowker, also of Middleton, at St Leonards Church, Middleton, in the June Qtr of 1851.
They had eight children between 1851 and 1871 and from the census records never moved house more than 50 yds.
John's father was Amos Smith Sarah Ann's father was Thomas Bowker
