Summary of Interests/Message
My ancestor Mary Ann Smith.
born 1850 Collyhurst Manchester.
was the daughter of James Smith,
who was born in Ireland, possibly c1810.

I connected with a family all cousins,
also descended from Mary Ann, and they
had useful things like her exact age,
recorded in her hand on what she called
a "Register" showing her husband and
children's dates of birth, christening and
deaths (although the deaths are partly
done by the eldest daughter).

That enabled me to trace Mary Ann's
birth, and the address she was born at:

Reg District of St George, Manchester.
14 May 1850. Mary Ann (Girl)
Father: James Smith
Mother: Mary Ann Smith
(Formerly Gibbons)
Fathers Occupation: Tailor

Mary Ann, Daur, Chr 16 Jun 1850

and according to her 'Register'
she was baptised as RC at St Chads
shortly before she married.

On Mary Anne's Marriage Certificate in
1869, her father is listed as James Smith
(Deceased), Fruiterer, which is the
occupation she listed for herself and in
which she was joined by her husband
John McDonnell, and which they ran at
Smithfield Market into the 1920's
The business was not continued by any
of their 12 children. I identified the couple
in the 1871 Census as:-

1871 Census

29 Nicholson Street, Manchester
John McDansell 21 Head Mar,
