Hello Everyone,

I have just registered, nice to find a Smyth site!
I would like to post some information.

George Smyth, not sure d.o.b., married Eliza Jane - (Lizzie - Elizabeth)
McCallum, d.o.b. 1881, at Trinity C. of I. Belfast N. Ireland., these are
my GParents.
My Father, John was born in 1906 Belfast.
GFather died in Flanders 1914.
I have been searching for my GMother's burial site, for quite some time.
In 1914 she married Walter Evans.
I have found an Elizabeth Evans, married to a Walter J Evans, and buried in Belfast, However it is not her.
I do know in the late 1960's she moved to England, but I do not know if she returned.
So, she may be buried in England!
Where do I go from here??
My Brick Wall!!!
Many thanks for any help.

Santana

Hi Joan/Santana,

Lovely to see you arrived here OK, after the log-in problems you encountered! Thank you for sharing your Smyth of Belfast interests, and fingers crossed that someone else might be able to throw some light on where Elizabeth might have died in England.
Have I understand this correctly...... this is ......

Elizabeth Evans formerly Smyth nee McCallum?

If so, Elizabeth must have been quite elderly by the late 1960s when she moved. Does it look likely that, if her second husband Walter Evans hadn't already died in Ireland, they would have moved together to England? and if so, maybe both buried here?

Only suggestion I can offer at the moment, as a starting point (unless you've already started this) is a search of the England and Wales GRO deaths indexes starting from - say - about 1965 and onwards, for both Elizabeth and Walter Evans for approximate correct age and both registered in the same District. Probably a long task due to the
commonness of the name Evans (mainly from Wales). I don't think the Freebmd site is yet indexed up to the dates you need, but as you might already know - you can search the GRO indexes online at several fee-paying websites. Some, such as "FindmyPast", "The Genealogist" and "Ancestry" are included at our "Links Cabinet" - here - http://www.smithfamilies.org.uk/Links. Another site which I like but haven't added to Links Cabinet yet is Familyrelatives.com
Good luck! and please keep us informed.

Hi Carole,

Correct: Elizabeth Evans, formerly Smyth, Nee McCallum.

Walter Evans, I believe, died in Belfast in the 1940's.
Apparently, Lizzie had a daughter, who lived in England, maybe around Rainham Essex.
I have searched what cemeteries I could in that area, with no luck.
I shall try Familyrelative.com

Joan
