Margaret, was the eldest daughter of Henry VII
and Elizabeth of York (dau of King Edward IV).

Alliance Tudors of England and Stewarts of Scotland

24 January 1502 the Princess Margaret became the
Queen of Scots when she married by proxy,
James IV the King of Scotland (16 years her senior).
Their marriage concluded the "Treaty of Perpetual Peace"
between England and Scotland

However, the treaty was broken by Margaret's brother, Henry VIII, when he ascended the English throne in 1509. Henry involved himself in war with France, Scotland's ancient ally. In 1513 the Scottish James IV invaded England in support of his French allies and was killed at the Battle of Flodden.

On James' death, by the terms of his will, Queen Margaret became Regent
for her young son James V of Scotland.

Through her son, James V, Margaret was the grandmother of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Interesting

Recently I've gotten hooked on a series of historical novels by Sharon Kay Penman. Her time period – at least the ones I’ve read– take place in the 12 and 13 centuries with Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard, John and others of that time period. A few years before the Tudors.

Hi
Thanks for the above. I love History it's always been of great interest to me.

Mary Queen of Scots second husband Lord Darnley was also a grandchild of Margaret Tudor from her second marriage.

I too love reading books about the past especially by Bernarnd Knght and Cynthia Harrods Eagles who writes about the Moorland family.

Hi Don and Jean,

Thanks for adding your comments.

Jean - thanks for mentioning about Henry Lord Darnley, I'd forgotten about him also being Margaret's grandson.

Yes my fascination for the Tudor and Stewart period began in my late teens after I'd seen the film "Anne of 1000 days" and then started reading Jean Plaidy's historical novels.

I never liked history at school - they didn't make it as interesting at school in those days as they do now. My grandson Ben is a history fanatic too, and he wants me to write more about the Wars of the Roses. He wants my next history topic to be about Richard III - the Yorkist, who I think was the uncle of Elizabeth of York. But I need to find out more about him yet.

Want to try and post a new one every month. Very Happy

Very Happy Yes please Carole it would be great to have a history topic every month.

Richard III would be good to read about, a lot of mystery surround him. Did he kill the "Princes in the Tower"or not?
