As far as I'm aware, though Judy, they came over to Liverpool from Ireland and settled in the city but, having said that they could possibly have meandered across the Mersey into Cheshire which is only separated by a few minutes trip on a ferry/train.
As most Irish families were quite large it's entirely feasible that they had relatives who crossed over into the Cheshire areas.
I've tried several times to check out Charles and Mary LUCAS but I can't get any further back from 1881.
In 1881 the census records show that my paternal grandfather, Christopher Reid b. 1872 Liverpool, was living with an Uncle and Aunt by the names of Charles and Mary LUCAS both born Ireland.
There is also a Mary SMITH and her son, James, living in the same house. Both were born Ireland.
Next the 1891 census shows the same Lucas's and Smith's again living together but, by this time, my grandfather would be 19 and obviously away at sea........... |
