Howdy again Weldon,
Keep us informed how its going with your Yorkshire Smiths & Pitts research, won't you?

In view of your Welsh connections, have also put a copy of this on the "Smith & Related Surnames -Other UK Counties"Board,
here >SMITHs Yorkshire & NEWBIEs Wales, both to America 17thC>>>
So you might want to click on "Watch Topic for replies" at the bottom right underneath each of these two Topics

Hello melba788101

It’s nice to see a new name and a fellow American on the Smith Chat Forums. I look forward to any response you may have to my Beagle Log postings. Please feel free to comment on, add to the topic, provide pictures personal experience, etc.

My "Smiths" and other ancestors are all New Englanders. Most of my ancestral roots migrated from England in the 1600's.

Hi Lyn,
nice to see you, hope all is going Ok for you. Your message here reminded me that Weldon's original posting in May was still on the Introductions Board (with the copy here). I've now swapped them around - so as above is the original, so hopefully Weldon should receive a notification about your reply here. Hope so - cos that's interesting!!

Bye for now,

Weldon says, "My ancestors are:
Andrew Smith and Olive Pitt came to America 1677 from Farsley (Yorkshire) England".
I greet my new-found cousin Weldon with the comment that I have a great file of genealogy on the couple and their descendants, and co-administer a website on the subject, and regret with others that neither I nor any of the many excellent researchers dealing with our Smith family have found an actual connection between West New Jersey Colony and Yorkshire.
The popular putative line identifies Andrew of New Jersey as the son of another Andrew born 17 Jul 1619 in Farsley, Calverley Parish, [Leeds], West Riding, Yorkshire, England, marrying 17 Apr 1643 a spouse yet unidentified, and dying in Farsley 16 May 1671.
Our Andrew is first noted in West New Jersey Colony with his daughter Elizabeth's birth 9 Feb 1679 at the Burlington Monthly Meeting of Quakers! And, later in a surveyor's diary: on January 20, 1681, Thomas Revel surveyed for Peter Fretwell "above the ffals of Dellaware" (Hopewell), and 200 acres for Andrew SMITH "at the ffalls (Trenton)."
There are a number of intriguing indicators of a Yorkshire connection, but as of yet no 'Golden Spike' uniting the lines of East and West.

It's wonderful to discover that the Smiths of Farsley continued into the 19th century!

Hello,
I am in three or more Smith yDNA Projects, two Regional and one based upon my test-result Q haplogroup assignment. Fellow descendants of American colonial immigrant Andrew Smith's son's and grandson's lines have been tested and are also confirmed to be in yDNA haplogroup Q (proving that I wasn't a gypsy baby switched at birth).
It would be valuable if cousin Weldon tested and proved to be in haplogroup Q, and almost earth-moving if Lyn could find a Yorkie male cousin (yDNA and all that) to help us make a connection to Farsley (although, her ancestor may be of another Smith family, such as I've seen in old Calverley Parish records).
I'm in communication with a male fourth cousin in Missouri and a female seventh cousin in North Carolina, both markers on my line's movement south and west.
Cheers for now, aye,
Gary in Berkeley

Hi Gary,
That's interesting! thanks for sharing it........ If I'm not mistaken, I'm thinking that Lyn's Farsley area Smiths might be of her husband's line, Jeff Knowles. Lyn's interests summary is on Smith List page 10
(ID:31-LKN)

(page move October 2010 - hyperlink updated, Carole)

and you should find a link there to her own website - which charts all her own and Jeff's ancestors. Lyn will perhaps be calling in soon.

Hi Gary & other West Riding researchers,
I've still been having difficulty contacting Weldon or Lyn. If anyone has had any recent contact with either of them........

Smith List page 10 which includes Lyn's Smith interests summary has been moved to a new backup page - whilst awaiting recompilation at the new Smith List site. >>Smith List page 10>>
Edit... Inserted August 2011 - updated Link.... >> Smith List page 10>>

Hi, Carole,
I finally found out where Weldon is in my family tree. He descends from a brother of my 3rd great grandfather [another Andrew], who settled in Texas before it gained Independence from the Republic of Mexico in 1835.
I invited him to be a member of my family site based upon our shared immigrant Tyke ancestor, Andrew. He accepted, came aboard and hasn't been heard from since. I believe him to be a quiet sort not given to expressing social excitement.
His email address as given me was: [e-address copied & removed]

Cheers,
and good results with your current project,
Gary Smith, 133-GAR

Hi Gary,

Well I'm really happy that you managed to contact Weldon! and not only that but the two of you have found your definite Smith family connection. That's brilliant!!Thanks for passing on his email address, I'll check it against the one I have.

I'm so pleased!! and yes, thanks - the new Smith Project site is progressing OK I think. Still more pages to recompile yet as you will know, but getting there!

Hi Gary,
Lyn's email address has now been updated in the Smith Chat system, so you should be able to contact her by private message now, if not already.

Chat again soon.

In recent developments, an immigrant Andrew Smith (c.1650-1704) family link has now been found between the American English Colonies and the West Riding of Yorkshire, as predicted, but a few miles south of the putative link to the area near Leeds, being near Monk Bretton/Burton, Barnsley. My online tree tells the tale so far: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/8920724/person/218424027 --- Cheers, Gary Smith
