Hi,

I am posting about Thomas Hamilton Smith from England to Australia I don't know exactly when but must have been after 1871 as he is on the census and before 1885 as he was married to Alison Helen McGregor in Tweed Heads, New South Wales Australia in 1885. He was a master mariner and sea captain, he took over his father-in-laws position as Pilot Officer at Tweed Heads after he arrived in Australia.

Thomas' father was the Reverent Daniel Smith who was born in Colne, Lancashire and his father was Thomas Smith a cotton manufacturer I think from Colne, Lancashire and he married Mary Knight.

I would like to be able to find out more information on Thomas Smith.

Cheers

Hello CK40,

I may just have found your Thomas, the father of the Rev Daniel Smith.

There are three possibilities, one is Colne, the other two are Downham and Newchurch in Pendle both near Colne.

Thomas Smith .. born ..28.11.1811 ... baptised ..1.9.1811 .. at St. Bartholomew Colne Lancashire
Parents James & Betty Smith
~~~~~~~~~~~
Thomas Smith .. baptised ..8.8.1808 in Newchurch in Pendle Lancashire
Parents James & Isabella Smith
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thomas Smith .. baptised .. 22.5.1802 at Downham Lancashire
Parents Richard & Betty Smith

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please let me know if this information is of any help to you, I may then be able to do a marriage search.
Hi CK40 & mattycat,
in view of the Colne, East Lancashire connection - have quoted a copy to our East & South East Lancashire Genealogy Board.....
Good Luck CK & nice to see your Melbourne pointer on our map.
Hello CK40,
How's it going with your research? Was the data that mattycat found for you of any help? Would be interested to know, when you next call in
