Apparently a considerable number of Welsh people moved to Spain in the C19 to mine for tin etc. in the mountains behind Cartagena. I am told that their families still live there and some Welsh words have been absorbed into the local language!
Cartagena is not far from Torrevieja which is visited regularly by Welsh choirs who share an interest in music with the local fishermen. These men are renowned for their 'habaneras' or 'songs of the sea'.
I just thought this may be of interest to anyone searching for a Spanish connection!!
