FAQ: How do I insert images into my posts
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To post an image in any topic at Smith Chat.
Firstly - you will need an image URL for the picture you want to post.
If you already have an account with an online image store, such as Image-Shack or similar, you can use the image URL from that server.
If you haven't already got an online image store account.
Use your free servimg image store here at Smith Chat.
Your login will be.....
Username - email address with which you registered at Smith Chat.
Password - the same as your Smith Chat password.
How to access your Servimg Account & upload images.
Recommended - have your system's pop-up blocker enabled to avoid nuisance pop-ups whilst in servimg. If you do encounter pop-up ads, these have been tested and are not harmful - just close them.
On the Board or topic to which you want to post...
[1] Click on "post new topic" or "post reply" - or use "quick reply" box (at foot of all topics)
[2] Left click on little blue banner "servimg" (top right of posty)
Servimg will open in a new Tab or Window.
[3] The first time you use it, you'll be asked to do this........
To import your email and password of your forum account to create an account on Servimg.com, enter your forum password.
[4] Once logged-in - You see "Upload your image".
Below this is the field for uploading the file from your computer.
[5] Click on "browse" - locate the image file on your computer & select it.
That will put it in the field on the servimg page.
[6] Click "host it".
[7] A few seconds for uploading, then you're taken to a new page "My Image".
The image you've uploaded is displayed at the top.
[8] Below the image you see a list of URLs.
Scroll down to the last URL -shown under "Direct Links".
[9] Copy that URL.
[eg - it will begin something like...... h t t p : // i19.servimg.com/u/f.......]
Continue to Step [10] below >>
Continued from above [Steps 10 to 15 updated 30th April 2009]
Instructions from here apply to image URLs from either
Servimg or from any other image hosting server.........
[10] Go back to your topic posty at the forum.
[11] Click on the "insert image" icon at top
A "Script prompt dialogue box" asks you to "enter the image URL here".
[12] From that field - delete "http://", then paste the image URL
(which you copied either from your servimg page or from another image hosting server)
[13] Click - OK
The image should then appear in your posty good stuff!!
[14] before you click "send" to post your message, preview your post to check that the image is not clickable/hyperlinked to your image server.
If it is clickable, please do the following:-
...... In the posty - left click on the image to highlight it.
...... Then, in the icons menu at the top of the posty - left click on (remove link)
...... The image should then no longer be clickable.
[15] When satisfied with your message and the image/s included, click "send" to post it.
Note: Depending upon your own PC security settings, when you click on the icon ,
you might see a yellow bar at the top of your browser - click on it and select
"temporarily allow script" - then again click on
You will then see the "Script prompt dialogue box" - then continue from step [11]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you'd like to practice as much as you like - where it doesn't matter if you make a mess!! or to ask the moderators for further help, please go to the old "sticky" topic on Chit-Chat Board..... >> Inserting Images Practice >>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some important things to remember:
Once you have inserted any image in a Smith Chat post.......
in order for it to remain in your post, you must not remove that image from your image hosting server. If it is removed from your hosting server, the image URL will then no longer exist, so your image will disappear from your post, replaced with a red cross.
Never copy and paste images directly from another website.
First get permission from the other website to reproduce their image, then save it to your own PC - then upload it to your own image store. Give credit by including a link to the website who have allowed you to use it.
Scroll further down that page and you should see another dialogue box
30th April 2009 : Temporary Announcement (copy)
Quote:
Servimg Image Server - temporary fault.
Any Smith Chat members who haven't yet registered your free Servimg image server account, please note:
It's now known that there is currently a technical fault with Servimg which is preventing members from creating new Servimg accounts (although existing members' accounts are functioning as usual). This will be resolved as soon as ever possible.
In the meantime, if you have another Image Server Account, such as -
photobucket.com, picturebay.net, or imageshack
you can use your image url's from those hosts to post them at Smith Chat.
To do so - follow our FAQ Help Topic above >> starting from step [10] >>
