| Looking for Info On bartholomew smith, born about 1685, England/Isle of Man, Died peterCulter,Aberdeen in 1758, was a prominent Paper maker/mill owner, son Richard took over firm in 1750 and in turn his son lewis took over firm in 1802, Richard had other children, one of which was Alexander Smith whom became a lecturer at Aberdeen University and a Church Of Scotland minister at Chapel of Garioch in 1800, Awarded a doctor of divinity in 1814, he in turn had son Robert whom was a doctor/surgeon,born in Chapel of Garioch,Aberdeen, he became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in England in 1833, but died in Aberdeen. he had son William about 1838, (not known where),on his marriage certificate for 1860 he lists his father as Robert Smith surgeon, aberdeen. and mother as Mary Gray (deceased). William had son Alexander in 1868, whom had son James in 1913, whom had my father, Donald in 1942 .
Sound familiar to any one??

Garry - does this mean that you're not sure yet whether Bartholomew was from the Isle of Man or somewhere in England?

| Newspapers etc from the time have him as a "business man from the Isle of Man", but whether he was born there I am not sure....yet! my brother lives in the isle of man so is trying to look at it from that side of the water. Garry |
