Hi Joshiemonkey,
No luck I am sorry, I have been searching for baptisms of both William and Mary and I presume that they married .. I have searched for the marriage as well. What I did find but don't think they are your family ...

Baptism of Mary Slater 9.11.1806 at Kemsey Worcester.. parents Luke and Betty Slater.

A marriage of Mary Slater to Thomas Smith 30.4.1837 at Cropthorne Worcester.

Have a happy Easter

I've moved this Topic from the Lancashire Board to this "Other England, Scotland, Wales" Board.

note for joshiemonkey -
the "Other-UK" - Smith & related surnames & Local History boards are to be further developed as Smith Chat progresses. So fingers crossed, that as time goes on, we will have more members researching their Worcestershire Smith ancestors too.

I've added your username to the Smith - Other UK Usergroup.
The only reason for this is - your Username displayed in green -
as opposed to the red of the Smith Project Group of Lancs, WRYorks, Isle of Man. Chat again soon hello you

Hello joshiemonkey,

Are you any nearer with finding more information for William & Mary.

Am I right in thinking that you already have their marriage data & that you're now looking for details of their births/baptisms? Or looking for their marriage as well?

Have you got Data for either the 1841/1851 Census or the Christenings of any of their children?

Hope you'll keep us informed. We're interested. Smile

Hello Very Happy nice to see you again,

I've just tidied up this old Topic thread of ours and then we can "get back to basics" as they say!!

Because your great great grandfather Elias & his sisters Mary & Ellen were born before 1837, as you'll no doubt be aware - there'll be no civil registration of their births, & so no copy birth certificates available. Baptisms Registers will be the nearest record for obtaining evidence of their approximate dates of birth. Whereas the births of the younger siblings, Hanson onwards should have been registered and so can probably be located in the GRO Births indexes. (and Hanson is quite an unusual name).

So just 3 queries at the moment, Joshiemonkey..........

Have you got any Census Data at all yet for the family?
(I'm wondering if its the Census where you found the approximate dates of birth of the children?)

Have you searched the births indexes at all for Hanson, the first child to be born after civil registration began?
(Hanson's birth certificate could probably produce some very useful clues - eg: father William's occupation. The address of birth, indicating which Parish to look for baptisms & possibly William & Mary's marriage.)

Did the family emigrate - or would they still be in England for later Censuses?

Look forward to hearing from you soon, joshiemonkey & then we can take it slowly from there onwards Great Stuff!!

Hello again joshiemonkey,

I see from the 1881 Census in Ripple, Worcester (RG11 2923 folio 113) that Elias & his son Arthur were Blacksmiths too.

I've managed to dig out some Christenings Data for your family and will come back here in a little while (after just finished some admin jobs) and then will post the data for you, on next reply post. (Now posted - please see below)

In the meantime - here's a snippet from the Worcestershire Parishes' Map - showing the neighbouring Parishes of the area your Smiths lived....

Back later, see you then.

Worcestershire IGI Christenings Data

This looks probable for Elias's father William Smith
(the only one indexed for Wick around that date)

Batch No C045941 1745 - 1875
Christening: WILLIAM SMITH 11 NOV 1804 Wick, Near Pershore, Worcester
Father: WILLIAM SMITH Mother: ANN

In the same batch - 2 other children of William and Ann Smith.....
? siblings of William. One named ELI - so that looks promising!!
ELI SMITH - Christening: 26 SEP 1802 Wick Near Pershore, Worcester,
JOHN SMITH Christening: 31 MAY 1807 Wick Near Pershore, Worcester
_______________

Elias's Christening.............

Batch No C040181 1801- 1875
Christening: ELIAS SMITH 11 JAN 1830 Eckington, Worcester
Father: WILLIAM SMITH Mother: MARY

No other children of William & Mary in this Batch

Christening HANSON SMITH 10 FEB 1839 at Strensham, Worcester,
Father: WILLIAM SMITH Mother: MARY

No other children of William & Mary in this Batch
____________________

The following (Kate) is the nearest possibility for Katherine, as far as I can see, and some other children of a William & Mary in the same batch........

Batch No C039851 1813 - 1877
All children of William and Mary Smith, All Christened at Belbroughton, Worcester
( near Kidderminster - more northerly than the other Parishes)
KATE 30 APR 1865
SARAH 20 NOV 1847
ADA 25 MAR 1855
ALICE AMELIA 26 JUL 1857
EVA ELIZA - About 08 JAN 1860

JESSIE LILLEY 11 SEP 1870

possibles for mother Mary Salter / Slater ?

Batch No C048581 1741 - 1812
Christening: MARY SALTER 14 JUN 1812 Elmley Castle, Worcester
Father: JAMES SALTER Mother: ANNE
(Elmley Castle neighbours Eckington - see map above)
If you think this might be your Mary - the same batch number could be searched for possible siblings

Less likely, but noted it anyway.....

Batch No C009038
Christening: Mary Slater 30 JAN 1813 Tiedington, Worcester Father: Thomas Slater Mother: Jane
Again, if you think this might be your Mary - the same batch number could be searched for possible siblings

No, William & Mary's marriage doesn't appear to be indexed in the Worcestershire IGI but not all parishes/all marriages included in the IGI yet of course. We'll have to keep coming
back to this.

I'll add another webpage link later, or as soon as possible, where you can find the Parish Registers microfilms holdings & dates available, etc.
I'll add that to my links topic here.......
>> Links for STAFFS, WARWICKS, WORCS Research >>

joshiemonkey, if you know of other Worcestershire sites or come across new ones in the future that would be of interest to other researchers, would be great if you could add them to that Topic too. Great Stuff!!

Talk again soon.

Hi Joshiemonkey,
Oh sorry - I forgot to insert the source reference at the end of the Data - smack my hands Embarassed Now inserted it above. Wink

It is data from the International Geneological Index (IGI) for Worcestershire.
Quote:
....... the IGI has been compiled over many years, by the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints (the Mormon church), from transcibed data from Parish Registers - Marriages, Christenings and miscellaneous other data. Additional Parishes data is, as I understand it, always ongoing.

The IGI is available on microfiche at most Family History Centres and Community History Libraries. The microfiche are compiled county by county. They are indexed in different batches, each with a number. Mainly, each batch includes one or more Parishes' Christenings or Marriages for a certain time-span. The IGI database can also be searched online at the LDS site >>Familysearch.org>> notes by Carole, Smith Project

so if you like, joshiemonkey, you can check all the Christenings that I listed for you above, on the online database. You can search a whole IGI batch by entering the batch number, or you can search for an individual person. The IGI does not include any other data than that I've listed above. But at least it gives the date and Parish - so you can then check the entries in the original or copy of the Original Parish Register.

Joshiemonkey - would you like me to post here whatever information I have on my computer about the Parish Registers and dates available, and where they are held in Worcestershire? Or are you already aware of those?

A link to the Familysearch site and a wealth of other genealogical databases and resource sites, can also be found in our>> Links Cabinet >> which is now quite extensive.

Glad to be of help. Please keep us informed, & hope to see you again soon,
Carole wave

I think this is the marriage you are searching for

William Smith m Mary Slatter, 26/7/1828, Church Lench,
witnesses, Thomas & Elizabeth Slatter

which I think I got from the worcestershire marriage database of Birmingham fhs

I think Thomas is Mary's brother and although I haven't found a christening record for Mary I think her parents are Samuel Slatter & Mary Owen

best of luck
