Hi Gillian,

I realised that I've also received your Smith Interests via the online form. Thanks very much for that.............You're also now added to the Forum's Usergroup "Smith Project-Lan,WRY-IoM" (so your username displayed in red)......................

It would be interesting, wouldn't it, to eventually find if you do have any relatives still living around Liverpool?

We'll chat again Gillian. Taraa for now wave

Hi Gillian,

Do you know of the first names of your Smiths from Liverpool and can you give me a rough idea of the years? I will then try to search for you .. no guarantee of success!

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Mattycat!

George Smith b1836 came to Liverpool after the 1851 census at which time he was in Cheshire. He married Mary Lightfoot in St Bride's church Liverpool in 1859 and their 1st child Hugh was born in 1860 in Liverpool although he was baptised in Bunbury Cheshire. George and Mary had a large family- 11 births-and all the surviving children are listed in the 1881 census. 2 of their younger children, Thomas Edward and Frederick, emmigrated. Thomas to Canada in 1893 and Frederick to America in 1894. I am descended from the eldest child Hugh through his only son Hugh and my Father Ernest Hugh.

I am uncertain what happened to the rest of the family although I believe Sidney died abroad at the end of the century.

I hope this is of some interest. Thanks for your help, Gillian

Hi Gillian,

I have just had a search and come up with this?

Goerge Smith baptised at St. Oswalds Malpas Cheshire 28.8.1860

Parents William and Jane Smith

Then I have had a quick look at the IGI on family search.org

Hugh Smith baptised on the 17.6.1860 at Bunbury Cheshire

Parents George and Mary Smith

You may have this information about Hugh, the other may not be your George! .. Please let me know what you think.

Hi Mattycat!

Thanks. Yes I knew about Hugh's baptism and of course his father could not have been born in the same year!! As I said George was born about 1836 and was in fact born at Stockham (to Peter and Eleanor) which is now engulffed by Runcorn. I know a lot about the Smiths in Cheshire and am pretty sure I can trace them back to 1600, possibly further.
Thanks anyway,cheers! Gillian

Gillian,

You have done really well with your Smiths.
I have typed the wrong date for George! ..it should have read 1836 not 1860 ...but in a different place.lol

Do you have the marriage of Peter & Eleanor? anyway if you want help ..just shout.
Have a good weekend
matty

Hi Mattycat! Yes thanks I do have a record of Peter's marriage and all his many children I believe! He was a busy man and kept his wife occupied. He was also a registrar of BMDs and a Poor Law Officer.
I have posted something on the emmigrants board and hope it is in the right place!
Talk to you soon Gillian
PS the sun is shining for once! GB :ck-smile:

Hi Gillian,

Yes I have just read and replied to your post. Now having a relative as a Registrar of BMD's is a dream you must have had so much information from him.

See you soon .. Matty
