I am looking for anyone who are Smiths from Kirkdale,
My grandfather was Thomas Smith sent in 1910 ish to Canada as a Home Child.
He came back to uk and settled in Bristol never to see his family in Liverpool.
I have traced his family to James Smith and Elizabeth Ann (nee Baxendale)
living at 14, Rooney Street in 1914, they had children Mary 1902, Margaret 1905 Elizabeth 1906, Florence 1908, Emily 1914, and then i think May 1921. so why did they send Thomas away, in 1910 when they were still having children in 1914 and 1920!!!

Anyone related to this Smiths family please

Thank you for sharing that news although it is rather sad for you and a puzzle.

You don't say how old Thomas was when he was sent away but it is possible that he was the youngest of the family and they didn't have enough money at that point in time to keep the family together. They may have been led to believe that it was the best thing for Thomas as well as for the other children if he went away to 'the land of opprtunity'.

By the time the youngest children were born the family circumstances may have improved and the older ones were able to earn a bit of money too.
