| I think that discovering this information is going to take some painstaking historical research Jim. There have been two World Wars and a lot of rebuilding in the intervening 100 years. You need to comb through the list of schools and try to locate their situation on the map to discover which old school may have been local to your father's district. | Hi Jim, I'm not sure whether Gillian will be back today. But anyway - here are a couple of great websites about Workhouses and the old "Poor Law", that you might find interesting...... | Hi Everyone
Just a note that may be helpful about the 1911 census records.
If you want to see more members of a family to be sure you have got the right one, or you just don't want to pay! Try searching like this:
Go to: "Search the Records" to get the form on screen. Just type in the surname of the family at the top of the form (not first name or year of birth).
Type in the place they were living (if you know)
At the bottom of the form type in the name of the person you are looking for on the census (surname and first name).
The results will not show the person you named (at the bottom of the form) but will show all the other people living with that person who have the same surname. If the surname is fairly unusual or if there are not many people in the town with that name you may be lucky and just get the family you want. If you get lots of names, look for all the ones in the place you are looking for, or look at their year of birth.
Hope this is useful. |
