Liverpool's highly successful year as capital of culture drew to a close on Saturday night when hundreds of people defied the cold to celebrate on the waterfront. Many people will be hoping that cultural events will continue to be an increasingly important feature on the Liverpool calendar.

I for one look forward to the opening of the new museum building in Liverpool and hope that more time and space will be given to the history of Liverpool before 1700.

Here's wishing Liverpool a very happy New Year for 2009 as we congratulate the city on the success of 2008!

Gillian

Very Happy Thanks Gillian. Yes!! Congratulations Liverpool on a successful year.

I watched on the TV News some of the celebrations they held on the Waterfront at weekend. It looked wonderful and everyone so proud of their city, and all having such a good time!! I wished I could have been there. (Liverpool is a special place).

There's a video of the Firework display - online here at the BBC.......
ooh it looks wonderful!! What a fabulous atmosphere there must have been!!
"...Thousands of people in Liverpool have watched a spectacular firework display to mark the finale of the city's reign as European Capital of Culture...."
