I really hope to go to the Anne Frank Festival, I think it will be wonderful, and I hope that school trips are arranged for all children from around the North West to go to it.

National Holocaust Memorial Day & Anne Frank Festival in Liverpool Jan-Feb 2008
As part of the city’s European Capital of Culture calendar, the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust's national commemoration is being hosted by Liverpool. This will include the 2008 Holocaust Memorial Day event and a month long Anne Frank Festival at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral. to highlight issues of hatred and prejudice.

...... More than six million people died in the Holocaust – nearly equivalent to the entire population of the North West.

Quote:
".... The theme for the event is "Imagine, remember, reflect, react" which challenges us all to imagine the unimaginable. It asks us to focus on the lives and experience of victims of prosecution and of other genocides. It invites us to find new ways to express this experience through art and media. It marvels at the resilience of enterprise, culture and of life itself in the face of destruction. Ultimately it is a call for action for us all to:
Remember the past
Reflect on the present
React to create a better future

The Anne Frank Festival
Liverpool Anglican Cathedral : 5 Jan - 7 Feb 2008
Quote:
......... The centrepiece of the Anne Frank Festival will be an exhibition at the Cathedral entitled Anne Frank and You. It includes a replica of her Amsterdam bedroom, where she wrote her famous diaries. The exhibition has been created by the Anne Frank Trust UK and the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam.

It explores the history of the Holocaust and presents contemporary issues such as racism in football, bullying and questions of identity in modern Britain.

“The national Holocaust Memorial Day event and Anne Frank Festival will be second to none. Both represent a fantastic start to the city’s wonderful year-long Capital of Culture celebrations”,
............................... Cllr Paul Clark, Liverpool Lord Mayor

Dec 2007: Updated info now at the Cathedral website........
The exhibition takes place in the Nave Well of the Cathedral
between 5 January-7 February 2008.
Quote:
At the very heart of the exhibition, is Anne Frank’s courageous spirit, translated through her words, wisdom and values. It explores the Holocaust and then relates this to issues that young people encounter in today’s society, including racism in football, bullying, the plight of child soldiers and the right to wear religious clothing.

Thank you Carole for raising awareness of this festival in Liverpool. What a wonderful opportunity it will be to learn about the dangers inherent in predjudice. Let us hope that many people, young and not so young, avail themselves of the experience on offer in the Cathedral in the coming month.
