PostSubject: Daffodils by William Wordsworth   Sun 29 Apr 2007 - 3:16

I can remember learning this poem at school

Daffodils

(William Wordsworth)

I wander'd lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills
When all at once I saw a crowd
A host of golden daffodils
Beside the lake, beneath the trees
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way
They stretch'd in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay
Ten thousand saw I at a glance
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee
A poet could not but be gay
In such a jocund company
I gazed, and gazed, but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude
And then my heart with pleasure fills
And dances with the daffodils

Chellin,

That has brought back lovely memories of the Lakes District .. the dafs will have died now but the bluebells will be out masses of them. The piece and tranquility up there is breathtaking... oh I am going on! late today as we Grandchildren sat last night 1 am this morning when we got home ... so off for my breakfast and back later.

Here is another Wordsworth poem

I TRAVELLED AMONG UNKNOWN MEN

I travelled among unknown men
In lands beyond the sea
Nor, England! did I know till then
What love I bore for thee.

Tis, past that meloncholy dream!
Nor will I quit thy shore
A second time, for still I seem
To Love thee more and more.

Among thy mountains did I feel
The joy of my desire
Ans she I cherished turned her wheel
Beside an English fire

The mornings showed, thy nights concealed,
The bowers where Lucy played
And thine too is the last green field
That Lucy's eyes surveyed.
