John Arnold.I’ve been looking for John Arnold.
He’s a relative of mine.
I’ve been looking for John Arnold.
In a far off place in time.
Even though the years divide us.
And although we’ll never meet.
I feel we are together.
As I walk along his street.
For yes I found John Arnold.
His sons and daughters too.
And this verse a tribute to their lives.
And how I came to you.
John Arnold born 1813.
Bollington Cheshire his birthplace.
Christened in Prestbury at St Peters.
It was here he came to grace.
I found records of John as a silkman.
The work in a mill it was hard.
He lived in a house set on Bridge Street.
Two up, two down and a yard.
John’s son bore the name of Elijah.
Records show him in Prestbury as well.
He left home for Manchester and married.
Chorlton upon Medlock we next see him dwell.
Elijah worked here in jobs various
Snooker marker was one I hear tell.
His last that is shown upon record
Was running the pub, he did well.
Records put Elijah down as here dieing
Wife Hannah to Blackburn she went.......
