| Julian - a query for when you next call in -
from your original interests message........
| Quote: | Thomas Smith. B 23.1.1839. Grt Harwood.d 2.1.1908. Oswaldtwistle. ............. Publican at The Printers Arms, Union Road, Oswaldtwistle. I would like to know if any photos are available of "The Printers Arms" pub? around 1881. |
Did you manage to get an old image of The Printers Arms, Ossy? If not, I'll have another look around to see if can come up with one. If we can find one - thought would be good to add an image underneath your summary on Smith List page 24? If not a picture of the pub itself, maybe an old image of Union Road.

| Hi Julian,
Is this your relative on the Accrington Absent Voters List (1918)..? From the page Church-Polling District J on Andrew Jackson's Accrington Pals site...
Number. / Surname / Other Names / Number / Rank / Unit / Address / Comments 4910 / Smith / Nathan / 103608 / Gnr./ R.G.A / 11 & Stable / Abode - Printers Arms, Oswaldtwistle
Andrew has transcribed the whole list and you can search by Surname or District. The Index is http://www.pals.org.uk/avl/index.htm Andrew gave me permission some time ago to extract any SMITH data from his fabulous Accrington Pals site, and I've done that mainly for collecting extra info about those who were killed in action (to help with compilation of my "East Lancs SMITH WW1 Roll of Honour" - Still a lot to do on that yet!!).
Did Nathan survive the War? as I haven't got anything else about him.
Printers Arms, Oswaldtwistle ....... There might be an old photo of the Printers Arms , or at least of Union Road, at the Blackburn Cotton Town Site, or possibly at the Francis Frith site's Oswaldtwistle collection. I've never got around to checking those yet. But here is a modern-day photograph of the pub, from a collection by photographer Alexander P Kapp at Geograph.org.uk
