| Copying here, a message emailed to the Smith Project from Marie Ball. | Marie wrote: | Hello, One of my 3ggmothers was Ann Smith of Clayton le Moors, m James Clough at Altham 1819, baptised 3 daus at St Mary, Enfield, R.C.
I have been trying to connect Ann to the family of Smiths in the 1767 list of papists, but, despite writing down lots of anglican and catholic Smiths, have not yet managed it.
However, her witness at the marriage was a Mark Noble, and a Mark Noble was son in law to the Smiths in 1767, so I think there should be some relationship.
I also have a Duxbury will in which Alexander the smith, childless, leaves his property to his nephews, a family of Smiths and Will Smith becomes the next Smith on the Dunkenhalgh estate.
best wishes, Marie Ball |
Thank you for your message, Marie. Am I right in thinking that Ann was married at the Roman Catholic Chapel? Also, it would be interesting to look out for anything that can be found about the Smiths of the Dunkenhalgh at Clayton.
