Josephine SMITH and John EDWARDS (Pendleton Salford)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for information on Josephine SMITH b. 1852 Pendleton who married John Edwards in 1869
Anyone else interested in these people?

Hi Matty,
I'm afraid I don't know much else about Josephine Smith except her fathers name was John. (just to make things difficult)

I have searched my CD's for both the baptism & marriage of Josephine an not found anything .. but not all Churches have been transcribed ..it may be worth you looking at the link below, I have found it very useful in the past for my other family research .. not just Smiths.

You might already know this - but if not..... for info.......

at the time of Josephine's birth, Pendleton was in the old Registration District of Clitheroe - now in the new Admin Registration District of Ribble Valley. But the main new central Registration District for Lancashire is at Preston - and the following page gives an update on their present status........ (they're very busy & big delays with issuing copy certificates)

But anyway - Pendleton Parish Register for baptisms is another option of course & mattycat has suggested the Lancs Online Parish Clerks Site. Not sure off the top of my head if Pendleton yet included there - but no doubt you'll soon find out!!

Hi Pat,

I have used the "online Parish Records" at lot also other counties have the on line records as well .. all are free and done by volunteers.

Do have a look at out links cabinet you may find help in there as well.

Carole .. there is a Pendleton near Swinton in Greater Manchester (from 1974 GM) .. so which one is it Pat?

Thanks for the info. I'm afraid having only just started on this side of the family I don't have much to go on. I have no idea which Pendleton Josephine Smith was born in. I didn't realise there was more than one. Embarassed

Makes ordering the film of the records very difficult.

Josephine and John Edwards marriage certificate states they were married in the Paddington Parish Church. Do you know if there is a Pendleton near there?

Good news all. Josephine Smith and her family are on the 1861 FreeCen site. It appears Josephine was born in Salford. Her father John and her mother Emma ?
Would there be a Paddington Parish church near Salford?

You learn something new every day .. I have just googled it .. and come up with a Church St.Paul, Paddington Close, Churchill Way, Salford, M6 5JG

St Paul’s Church was built in 1856 ... there may be other Churches .. if you look at the link .. it does give the names of others. A lot of the old Salford has been knocked down over the years .. roads where houses were etc.

Sorry to be so long answering, got a little behind.
No I'm afraid nothing more on Josephine Smith. It's very difficult to make any headway from this distance if I can't look at a film. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be many registers in this neck of the woods that have been filmed. So at the moment its easier for me to keep my research to areas where parish records have been filmed.

Aaah yes - Pendleton in Salford. Forgot about that one - I was thinking of Pendleton in East Lancs, near Pendle Hill.:shrug]:
