PostSubject: HARGREAVES Yate & Pickup Bank, Darwen & Blackburn   Wed 23 Jan 2008 - 18:54

Found my gr-gr-gr grandparents on the 1841 Census, John & Betty Hargreaves, so decided to post my HARGREAVES interests, good stuff!!

My great- grandparents:
Samuel Smith m Elizabeth Alice Thornber
in 1883 at St James Chapel, Blackburn

Elizabeth Alice Thornber,
born in 1863 at 13 Eccles Street, Blackburn
daughter of Ralph Thornber & Ann HARGREAVES (my gr.gr.grandparents)

Ann HARGREAVES was born in 1842 in Darwen.
Ann married Ralph Thornber in 1862 at James Street Chapel, Blackburn
Marriage certificate gives Ann's address as 13 Eccles Street,
& her father as John HARGREAVES, Cotton Spinner.

John HARGREAVES was born c1816 at Yate or Pickup Bank
He married Betty ___?___ >>> Duxbury >>>

1841 Census
John & Betty HARGREAVES
resident at Henry Street, Over Darwen.
Both recorded as age 25, John, a Cotton Spinner,
both born this County (Lancashire) and no children with them at that time.

1851 Census
the HARGREAVES family
Resident at Back Duckworth Street, Over Darwen
John, age 34, Cotton Spinner, born Yate Bank
Betty 34, born in Over Darwen
ANN age 9, and Alice age 6, both born in Over Darwen

1861 Census
the HARGREAVES family
Resident at 13 Eccles Street, Blackburn
John, age 44, Cotton Spinner, this time shown as born Pickup Bank.
Betty, age 44. born Darwen
ANN age 19, Cotton Piecer; born Darwen
and Alice 16, Susannah 9, Betsy 7, all born in Darwen

Ann Hargreaves married Ralph Thornber the following year, 1862,
so is Ann Thornber by the 1871 Census, & onwards, and I'll post
that at a later time.
