PostSubject: Smyth of Carnmoney   Sun 11 Jan 2009 - 12:55

Hi,
Yesterday I posted a message which started with "I am not a Smith". Last night I found out that I was wrong when chasing my maternal Grandmother in the 1911 census. I had always thought her name was Martha Neil. It was in fact Martha Neil Smyth. She was born on 27 Apr 1881 to James Smyth and Sarah Neil in Carnmoney Newtownabbey. They married 15 Apr 1870 in Donegal St. Congretional Church Shankill Belfast and went on to have 12 Children between 1871 and 1890. If anyone has any information please contact me. I have a mass of detail on my father's side but very little on my Mother's.

Regards
Kingkerswell

Hi Kingkerswell,

Well would you believe it!! you were only just thinking about the Smiths and then you discover Martha was a Smythe. That's amazing. Well thank you for posting this information, and hopefully at some time soon or in the future, other members will recognise a connection.

Is the Ireland 1911 Census online now or soon? I only know that England & Wales 1911 will be coming online later this year.

Bye for now,
Carole Very Happy

Carole,
The 1911 census is available for the Counties of Dublin, Kerry, Antrim and Down. It is a joint project between the national archives of Ireland and those of Canada and as the year progresses they will add more. When the 1911 is complete they intend to stsrt on the 1901.

Hi there and welcome to Smith Chat!

That is very interesting news about the Irish 1911 census. I shall have to see whether I can find any family on it. Thank you for that information. Gillian
