Good Morning (sun)

It is a bright, brisk day here in the Nation’s Capital. The sun is shining and politicians are looking for the next bailout recipient. Sorry for the cynicism, but it’s hard to refrain from a comment or two occasionally.

Today I will be working on my never ending effort to cleanout the basement. ck-hrrmm I don’t see an end in sight for this effort. Folks without basements may be lucky – basements have a knack of attracting “stuff”. And when you go through it, you wonder where it all came from.

Good Evening All!

No sunshine here now although we did get a glimpse several hours ago which lasted about 30 mins before the rain came down! However, there was a break in the rain this afternoon which enabled my husband to go in the garden and wield a sweeping brush amongst the autumn leaves which are prolific at the moment! I think he is happier doing that than he would be in a basement!

We have neither basement nor attic, just a loft where we store suitcases and Christmas decorations. One day, in the not too distant future, neither of us will be able to access the loft because of the ladder so we daren't put 'stuff' up there incase we never see it again!

We were ruthless when we moved out of the family home 10 years ago. We made the children take away all the 'stuff' they had amassed over the years but wanted us to 'look after' until some point in the future which was never going to be reached. Because we were moving to such a small bungalow they realised they didn't have much option except to remove their treasures!

cheers Gillian

Hi Don!! Very Happy

Well I don't know about that!! I have no basement but what I call my "Big cupboard" that attracts all my old stuff "to be sorted out sometime!!". Haaaa haaa so yes I know what you mean.

It sounds as though you're having much better weather there than we are having here at the moment.

Is it nearly time for your Thanksgiving celebrations over in the US?? I remember when you were sorting out the turkey last year

Carole,

Icons & other images appear fine on this end.

Made some headway in the basement – can get to the Christmas decorations now. :>>:

Gillian, that is a drastic approach to get your children to take their stuff. We’ve only had moderate success in getting our two boys to take possession of their “treasures”, but selling the house might be a bit extreme

Morning everyone hello you

Raining again today.

We don't a basement, we have a small attic but I don't go up there.
Our house is very small so we have a problem trying to find somewhere to store things. I have a clear out once or twice a year. The charity shops do well from us.

All doom and gloom had the moment with job losses and people losing their homes.

We will have to think of some silly things to do for Christmas to keep our spirits up. I have an idea, will write to Carole when I have more time with my idea.

Off shopping now. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Good Afternoon

Jean is right we do need to keep cheerful. Perhaps we can consider how hard life must have been for many of our ancestors and how they must have struggled to keep warm at times. Even just thinking back to my childhood makes me realise how lucky I am now in so many ways.

Perhaps we could try to post 'good news' every day?

My good news today is that we are going to a party this evening! party

cheers Gillian

Hi everyone,

Yes, even though we have our modern-day society "problems", we are lucky in many respects compared to some of our ancestors and the way they lived, before the National Health Service and other stuff. Yes, you're right Gillian, and we should focus every day on the good things in life.

(hearts) My family good news for today is that my mum is home from hospital. (hearts)

(tinkerbell) My Smith Project good news is that I've got "on a roll" with the Smith List updating and moving on with this at last!!
(sun) and my Smith Chat good news for today is that - its time to consider which red usergroup member and which green usergroup member deserve the 2008 Smith Chat awards for "Top-Status Member" title.

Moderators debate in progress before the final decision is made!!
Have a great weekend everyone cheers

Just remembered something else!!

party and my own family history research good news is that I have found the marriage of my ancestors John and Betty Hargreaves of Darwen, at St Marys Blackburn in 1839, so discovered a new surname in my Smith Family tree!! -
Duxbury of Darwen (Betty's maiden name)

Sounds as though things are on the 'up' at the moment Carole!

Good Afternoon Smith Chatters!

In spite of a short, sharp spat of rain it is a lovely day today with plenty of sunshine. I think at long last we may be winning the battle of the leaves! How so many of them manage to find their way inside the house is a mystery to me. We have a wisteria on the house and it sheds its leaves late. Consequently there are still hundreds of them to fall. Never mind, it keeps us active.

I wonder how many of you have needed to dig your way through the snow? Not many I hope I believe it thawed fairly quickly in most parts. We didn't see any at all.

If anyone has a snow scene perhaps they could post it for us to see?

cheers Gillian

Hi Gillian,

No snow here in Blackburn so far - unless it was during the night and had thawed out before I ventured out this morning!!

Ooooh very cold now here. Bought a new thermal pair of gloves and woolly hat. They're needed now!!

See you later Very Happy

Gillian,

I think the Mid-Atlantic States are in for a bit of snow this year. The last few years have been warmer then usual. Our long term forecast has it colder and wetter (=snow) this winter. Over the years DC has had numerous snow storms (2 feet or better) that paralyzed the city and suburbs. I’ll post some pictures when I’m snowed inJ
