| It's Monday Again - More TV Trivia
The family across the street had a television set. It was a big cabinet with a small 9-in. screen. It was probably a late 40’s vintage. It enthralled neighborhood kids. In 1953, we got our first television set. It was a 21-in Sylvania, in a ‘modern blond’ cabinet. It was the 50's equivalent of today's widescreen plasma HDTV.
There were great shows for kids: “Cecil the Sea Sick Sea Serpent”, a puppet show; Howdy Doody with Buffalo Bob; the Lone Ranger; Superman, and other classics long forgotten. There were also adult shows such as “Boston Blacky”, “Bilko”, and “Charlie Chan”. Daily TV broadcasts didn’t start until 4 or 5 PM.
What was your first experience with TV?
What were the popular shows?
And more interesting yet, what did you do before TV?

| Hiya Don, I can't remember ever not having a TV. My earliest memories of TV are "Watch with Mother" - a daily programme for Tots. There was Andy Pandy, The Woodentops, Bill & Ben the Flowerpotmen, Rag,Tag and Bobtail (rabbits!!) Then when I got a bit older, progressed to "Torchy the Battery Boy"!! and his girlfriend "bossy boots". And yes of the ones you mentioned I liked the Lone Ranger, his horse Silver & his friend Tonto!! See you later, have a great day everyone Carole |

| Hi Don I can remember seeing T.V for the first time when I was about 6 or 7 and had to go into hospital to have an operation on my left eye. We didn't have a T.V at home at the time and the first programme I saw was the "Lone Ranger". It wasn't long after that, that my parents bought our first T.V, and I watched the "Wooden Tops", "Bill and Ben the Flowertop men" the same as Carole. I can remember the first Doctor Who and coming home from school and watching "Crossroads" a T.V soap. Bye Jean |

| Hola Don! My grandparents bought the first TV in our family for the Queen's coronation! It was a very important day in our childhood and my sister and I were dressed in red, white and blue. We were taken to our grandparents house very early in the morning where we joined the rest of the family crammed round a minute 'black and white' set. We were lucky because being the smallest we sat at the front! We sat glued to the set for the day, squinting as the tiny figures moved around on a grey London day. Lunch and tea were served as we watched, mesmerised by the pomp and ceremony such as we had never seen before. The Queen's wedding had been filmed but we had to go to the cinema to see that a week or two later. To be able to watch the coronation as it happened was amazing to us!!!
