| Hola Don! As far as we are aware in Spain it is a non event. !st Nov. 'All Soul's' day is a very solemn day. Many businesses close and families visit the cemeteries and leave flowers, plants etc on family graves, most of which are in the cemetery wall. Your remains only rest in the grave as long as the family pay the rent, I believe. For the last few days we have been aware of flower sprays etc for sale and people puchasing same ready for Thursday (many are made with artificial flowers). Tomorrow we shall see long queues wending their way to the cemetery. So...no I don't have any packets of sweets or candy ready. Last year we were in the UK and I had a tin full of sweets in anticipation but nobody called!! We were most surprised. Hasta luego Gillian _________________ ''What will survive of us is love.'' | I think i will be out! I know a spoil sport but I did not let jo and lee go out to just anyones house> We used to go to friends on the street who agreed to it. It was never heard of when i was young to go trick or treating! Kids around here seem to want MONEY and when offered sweets they have turned their noses up at it, Hence tonight I'm out. _________________ Maxine Friendship~ Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down. - Oprah Winfrey |

| Hi We never had trick or treating when I was young. I live in a quiet cul-de-sac, so we don't get any trick or treaters.

| Halloween is a big event here in the states. I think at times the adults get into it more than kids. People love to dress up and this is a great occasion. When the kids were little I would put together a costume and join them on their rounds. One year I had a full head mask, a gruesome old man (predictive of the future?), an army field jacket, and a 5 ft sword (replica of some famous Spanish broadsword). It proved to be just the right mix – little kids would cross to the other side of the street or run in terror. I had a picture of myself but can’t locate it now – maybe next year. _________________ Don |

| Hi everyone,
jfs - I love the little verse you posted on your Topic on the Anniversaries Board >> Halloween >>
No - we never used to do "Trick or Treat" around here - its just a recent years thing that I think has been passed across to us from the USA.
Ask anyone who lives in East or South East Lancashire or West Yorkshire about Halloween and the first thing they will think about usually is Pendle Hill and the Lancashire Witches - or sometimes referred to as the Pendle Witches, who were imprisoned in the "Witches Tower" at Lancaster Castle.
When I was in my teens, it was the norm to go on treks up Pendle Hill on Halloween!!
See Mattycat's Topics...... this one on our East & South-East Lancs Board >> The Pendle Witches a true story >> and this one on our Lancs-other areas Board >> History Of Lancaster Castle >>

| Yep you have just reminded me about up Pendle Hill. Spent one Halloween in Downham...that was a good night...we could not get close to the hill for the traffic. _________________ Maxine Friendship~ Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down. - Oprah Winfrey |

| Hiya Maxine,
Ooh yes - loads of memories of Halloween!!
One time - when I was about 17 or 18 - with my ex-husband - but this was well before we were married. We set off on a trek up to Pendle & were supposed to be meeting up with a bunch of other young people. We took a tent & sleeping bags!! It was dark, wild, windy and cold!!
We never caught up with the others - we got lost!! Ended up so tired and cold that we decided just to choose a spot & put up our tent. Couldn't get the tent up - it kept blowing away - it was like being on "Wuthering Heights"!! (well - we hadn't a clue where we were - so we could have been in West Yorkshire by then - for all we knew!! )
In the end - we were that fed up with it - & falling out with each other, then laughing, then falling out again!! haaa haa - and so tired - we gave up on trying to put up the tent, unrolled the sleeping bags, chucked em down on the grass, got into them, pulled the tent over us like a blanket!! and fell asleep.
Early morning we were wakened by the sound of a loud mooo-ooo-ooooo. Peeped over our blanket (the tent!) and there was this cow - looking down at us - mooo mooo mooo!! We jumped up, picked up our stuff and fled.
Still no idea where we were that night!! & didn't really care at the time! We hitched a lift back to Blackburn.
Thought would just share that with you all - happy memories!! haaa haa. I suppose we were lucky it was only a cow and not a witch - or we might have ended up in a cauldron!!........ haaa haaa. Carole.
