Good Morning,

This bronze statue is on the grounds of the Kotokuin Temple. It is 13.35 meters tall and is over 800 years old. We visited the temple in 1983 and the statue was impressive.

What is the name of this statue and where is it?

Very Happy Good morning Don,

Heck - big statue!! I don't know if it has a special name other than Buddha, but my first guess is that it is somewhere in China ?????

Hi Don!
'35.35ms tall and 800yrs old' well that cuts me down to size and makes me look like a 'spring chicken' again!

I guess it was in Korea?and called Buddha. Other than that I plead ignorance. cheers Gillian

Kotokuin Temple (see link) is in Japan just a bit south of Tokyo. It was a nice day trip. We traveled from Tokyo to Kamakura (city where temple is located) by train. Picture below shows the full statue; wife, Brian, and Ben are in lower left. Photo colors are badly faded so I converted picture to b&w. See above link for a collection of photos of the Buddha statute.

While visiting the temple, Brian’s future potential as a “Chick Magnet” became apparent. A group of Japanese schoolgirls asked to have their picture taken with him. I snapped this as they were taking their photos.

Hi Don,

Thanks for that interesting info about the Buddha statue and the link to the web-pages Kotokuin Temple

Well - yes I can see that Brian is a very handsome young man & so no wonder he became a "magnet" for the young ladies.

See you later
