Sherlock Holmes has been portrayed by many actors. The two that come to mind are Basil Rathbone who made fourteen movies between 1939 and 1946 and Jeremy Brett in the 1984–94 series of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes who appeared in 41 episodes. Both were exceptional.

Jeremy Brett was the best Sherlock Holmes.

Has anyone seen "Murder Rooms, The dark beginnings of Sherlock Holmes". This was a programme about Arthur Conan Doyle early life, when he was studying to be a doctor. His mentor was Dr Joseph Bell who Sherlock Holmes is believed to be based on.

Well to cast my vote, I'll go with Basil Rathbone. But as for Watson, I like the one who is cast with Jeremy Brett.
