Stranded in the house – no way out. Been snowing for 2 days now and not expected to let up until late this evening. This morning at 9 we had an honest 20 inches and expect another 10 to 12 today. Dogs are confused. Larger beagle finds herself up to her ears in the stuff; smaller beagle is lost with only the tip of her tail showing. More snow predicted for this coming Tuesday/Wednesday. Where or where is Al Gore when we need him???

Spent a few hours this morning moving snow, will tackle the new snowfall later today. This has been the heaviest snowfall I’ve experienced in the Washington DC area. (But not to surpass the levels I experienced as a kid in Washington State – over my head or so I tell my sons.) Some feel it is headed to breaking the local record of 30 inches which occurred in the early 30’s. I think it might be time to pop some popcorn and breakout a DVD.

Here is a photo from my front door at 9AM.

Hi Don

I saw the pictures on the T.V but didn't think it was that bad. Hope you have plenty of supplies in and are keeping warm.

Well would you believe they’ve up the ante – new prediction is now for 12 to 18 inches tonight, possibly exceeding the record for snow on the ground, 54+ inches, in the DC area going back to the 1870’s. It’s fortunate that we have a 4x4 vehicle otherwise we’d be stuck. We made our run to the grocery store this morning to replenish the necessities (popcorn and coffee). Took a neighbor with us, her pantry was bare (no, it wasn’t Mother Hubbard).

We had to make pathways for the beagles for their needs. Now the backyard is like a garden maze.

Think I’m ready for spring

What a great photo.
It seem to have been winter forever.
No snow here but it's gone colder.
Roll on Spring.

I think I see the light at the end of the snow tunnel. Weather forecast is warming so we should see some of the white stuff melt. Yesterday the county finally cleared our subdivision’s roads using heavy equipment – snow was hardpacked 3, 4 and more inches deep from vehicles driving over the fresh snow. After 10-days schools and local governments are reopening. Major roads are clear. (Last Friday it was a zoo; one of the main arteries going into the city went from 3 lanes on the Virginia side to 1 lane on the DC side because the city had created humongous snow piles in two of the lanes.) Snowfall for the area did set a 100 year record. Official snowfall this year to date is 56.6 inches.

Now can spring be that far off???

P.S. Come July and August when I complain about the hot humid weather, point me back to thisJ

Hi Don It is good to know you are able to get your head above the ramparts again!

This morning I looked out of the window and saw a magpie fly across the garden with a very long stick in its beak so I reckon that is pretty hopeful for us at least!! I just hope the magpie is good at weather forecasting!

Keep warm everyone, Gillian

As a closure to this thread our snow has melted and the daffodils are emerging. I expect the forsythia to bud soon. I find it kind of amazing how fast the seasons turnover.
