I go by the handle of 'avalonfh' - Avalon Family History - but really am Allan Smith. My family are from Barnoldswick, once in Yorkshire but now in enemy held territory, from my Grandfather's birth in 1907. Before that his family are from Kirkam back to 1877. Before that the only reference I have is from a marriage cert and 1881 census.
John Smith born about 1857, a flax spinner in Kirkham, son of William Smith. deceased.

Hi Allan,

Good to see you here wave
Your original post has been moved to the "Lancashire - other areas - Smiths" board, in view of Kirkham - this is the link to your topic......

That's very interesting, as Smith not very common historically on the Fylde. Anyway - I'll write back to you on there later, & will put another copy of your message on our "West Riding Yorkshire- Smiths" Board too - in view of your Barnoldswick interest.
And thanks for telling us about your website! looks interesting!
See you later, Carole

Hi Allan

Good to hear from you. Can you clarify for me: was your John Smith born in Kirkham or did he just live there at some point? People were moving about a lot between 1857 and 1877.

Hope we help, Gillian
