| I believe we, Americans and English, have or had differing definition of big numbers.
American counting goes: Thousand 1,000 Million 1,000,000 Billion 1,000,000,000 Trillion 1,000,000,000,000
| Quote: | From Wikipedia
For most of the 19th and 20th centuries, the United Kingdom uniformly used the long scale, while the United States of America used the short scale, so that usage of the two systems was often referred to as "British" and "American" respectively. In 1974 the government of the UK abandoned the long scale, so that the UK now applies the short scale interpretation exclusively in mass media and official usage. |
In any event, the “bailout bill” the US Congress is considering, and will probably pass, is BIG. It is almost a trillion dollars. This is well beyond my frame of reference. _________________ Don |

| I see that Jo is my sort of woman as Ivor wanted to bring home a Ford2000E, simister, morris 1000, and then it was something else and I say NO. he has too many to start with. 7 motorbike in bits and we have the van the car (both on the road)and 3 landrovers and 2 rande rovers in bits pluss both kids have cars on the road. If it wasn't for the farm he could not have then as we could not store everything. We did have a bump in the van the other week and the woman addmitted it was her fault so vans been wrote off and hes looking for a new camper. _________________ Maxine Friendship~ Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down. - Oprah Winfrey |
