PostSubject: Cheshire: Smiths of Beeston and Lightfoots of Ashton/tarvin   Mon 17 Sep 2007 - 16:34

Greetings everyone!

I am descended from George Smith and Mary Lightfoot who were both born in Cheshire and moved to Liverpool where they married in 1860 and had eleven children, although some died in infancy.

I have been fortunate in being able to trace both families back into C18 and the Smith side into C17, although the further back I go the more difficult it is to establish facts.

I have even found the ancestral home, although I was ignorant of the fact that we had one until I stumbled upon it!! Shocked I can trace occupation by Smiths from late C18 up to 1901 census and they are close relatives of my blood line who are living there. Perhaps one day I shall tell the story of how I discovered the house.

The house is situated on the boundary of Beeston and Peckforton and is within sight of both castles. In fact there are 2 houses on the same road which were almost next door to each other and both were occupied by different branches of the Smith family!

The Lightfoots lived mostly in Ashton I think, although sometimes they seem to have Tarvin addresses.

I shall gradually add more information on these Cheshire families but if anyone has links to them I would love to hear from you!

Cheers Gillian
