wave Hi Don, & any of our American members who might be able to make suggestions.

I see that Maxine posted a copy as above of EF's original topic - which is on "Other England, Scotland, Wales" Board.

I've been writing to E.F.about his search on that topic,
>>> Richard Smith b1627 England, to Northumberland Virginia USA >>>
where we now have a list of Christenings from the IGI for about 30 or less possibilities for EF's William Smith, son of Richard. The brickwall of course is - from which part of England did Richard & William migrate to Virginia, America.

I know you traced your own Smiths back to the correct area in England, Don, - 16th or 17th Century, so I wonder if you might have any suggestions or advice for EF, such as - passenger lists for around the date he's exploring? which might indicate the Port of departure? Or in fact anything at all you can suggest as to relevant record holdings, etc.

Talk later
Carole

Carole,

No suggestions. When this was first posted I looked for some leads but was stymied. I thought some help might be found at one or more of the links provided at North American Links - Genealogy Resources . Did not find anything.

My research has relied on New England’s genealogical records that. Records from other colonial sites are not as detailed.

Hi Don,
Thanks for that. I did come across at least one website about the Virginia "northern neck" which includes some genealogy related information that might be useful to some researchers. So I'll dig out that/those and then post the URL/s on your Links Topic. Then, if you think they are any good, you might want to add to the list.

Just proves that my Virginia geography is not too brilliant!!........... Just looked at the map & thinking now that New England is in.............am I right?...etc....
