| There is a free website to search the records of Ellis Island. From 1892 to 1954, over twelve million immigrants entered the United States through the portal of Ellis Island, a small island in New York Harbor. Ellis Island is located in the upper bay just off the New Jersey coast, within the shadow of the Statue of Liberty. http://www.ellisisland.org/ I have found the passenger records of my grandparents, my father, his cousins, and uncles and their wives. It had several accounts for my grandfather as he was a young radio officer on several merchant freighters. The records indicate the date of arrival, names, ages, height, eye color, health, amount of money they had, where they came from and where they were going including names and addresses. |

| Hi Helixlinks,
Thanks very much for this. That's great!! that you found so much information about your emigrant ancestors from that one site. As you can see, I've split your post from the other thread to create this new Topic.... "Ellis Island FREE Port of New York Passenger Records Search". But please tell me if you want the Topic title changing.
The Ellis Island Site link is already included in the "Emigration/Passenger Lists" Category of our Links Cabinet but when I next update that Category, I'll include an additional note to the description, eg...........

Helixlinks, as you will have realised, this board (on which we now write) has been under review for change, and I can confirm that it will soon be renamed to something like "Emigration to USA and Canada". We'll then start a new Links List on this Board, for relevant websites. Then can collect more for possible later inclusion in the Links Cabinet.
Thanks again and chat again soon _________________ Carole, Smith Project/Smith Chat Admin Nothing is too small to know, and nothing too big to attempt (William Van Horne) |
