| Hi to all our Aussie Members,
| Last year, June 2007, I wrote: | The Topic where I'm gradually compiling the story of my great-grandad Timothy Gardner Hughes who emigrated from Lancashire England to South Australia c1904-1908........ Is now in our Lancashire Family History Board......... Grt-Grandad Hughes : Kirkham Lan to Adelaide,S.Aus But I'll post more here, on the Australia Board. when I eventually get up to the part in my story about research that led me to finding records for him in Adelaide.
A Hughes-family related Topic I posted here on "Australia Board"..... re Timothy's Australian adopted daughter, Margaret....... Looking for HUGHES Adoption Record - South Australia? |
Haven't done anything more about all this since that time, but just discovered that findmypast.com http://www.findmypast.com/migration.jsp have now completed their database for Passenger Lists Leaving UK 1890-1960. So my great-grandad Timothy Hughes should be in there somewhere now!! Searched the index and there are a few possibles that I still have to follow up yet.
But I wonder if anyone with "expertise" on migration during the first few years of 20thC from UK to Australia, can advise me with this please...........
Timothy ended up in Adelaide. Which port of arrival would he most likely have sailed to - Melbourne or Sydney?? as these are the only two ports of arrivals for my "possibles". And they are sailing from Southampton, whereas I had previously always assumed he would have sailed from Liverpool (because he was living in Lancaster)
At the moment, a 1908 sailing is looking most possible, but can't be sure yet.
