What was your 1st or favorite car ?

My first car was a 1952 Ford Mainliner. I bought it in 1963 while stationed in Spokane, Washington. It had a flathead V8, was easy to work on, and would always start. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of it.

My favorite car was a 1964 Dodge Dart. It was a convertible, black w/red racing stripe and red nagahide upholstery. I bought it in 1966 and had it for about a year.

Hi Don,

I can't remember which way around it was - but my first 2 cars in the 1970s were a red Vauxhall Viva and a blue Ford Cortina. Can't remember which came first!! or anything else about them Embarassed

But my favourite car ever was a little Fiat 126 - yes "little" indeed - in fact, tiny!! but really cheap to run, and a nice bright red. I had it for 7 years, late 80's to mid-90's. Went all over in it, up and down the motorway regularly. It was the one I had during the time I lived in Liverpool and all my traffic calamities (the one that got into the wrong lane and nearly took me through the Mersey Tunnel, then did a U-turn to get out of the situation Laughing ) My son used to call it "my mum's Noddy car".

It eventually conked out in the middle of Lancaster City Centre about 1996, had to be towed away by the AA, and I was very sad to let it go once and for all!! Don't think I have any photos of it :ck-sad: .

See you later wave

Hi all.
First car was a singer chamoise the posher version of the hillman imp. It had a wallnut dashboard. Aluminium engine and always blowing the head gasket. Loved it to bits.
Favourite car was my ford escort 1600 GT. When I came back from Tanzania after 2 years I bought it. It had been custom built for rallying, with all the flaired arches, 16" tyres, souped engine and a custom spray job. Unfortunately I have no pictures as the day before I went to work in Jerusalem for a year, my mate who was going to look after it while I was away crashed it head on into a rover and wrote it off.
He also had no insurance and the police had me. After I explained I was going overseas the police said it was ok.
When I returned a year later they arrested me at the airport.
So that was my welcome home....lol
Anyway I was fined £60 and had 3 points on my liscence.
Love to all
Daz.

Daz, and how did your mate make out? Sounds like he left you in a lurch. :shrug]:

Another memorable car was the VW Beatle I had in Germany in 1968. It was an English export model (steering on the wrong side -- well I guess its how you look at it Big Smile: )

It would be great to have some of these old cars today.
