Sunset on the beach

This was taken at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware (i.e. the eastern shore). It's about a 3-hour drive from Washington DC and is a popular summer attraction for folks living in the metropolitan area. Our preference is to take a week in late September or early October. The weather is still nice and the crowds are gone.

Here I am with the "surfing" beagles. I was tempted to turn them loose but my wife would have none of that.

Can anyone guess what the structure is behind me?
No, it is not a beach house.

Hi Don
I don't know the answer to this one. Looked up Rehoboth Beach on Google and it looks a lovely place to holiday.
Look forward to tomorrows' Beagle Log.

Bye for now

I was wondering if it might be another one of those gun enforcement / fortifications that they used during WW2? that you told us about the other week Don? And maybe the top of the Tower was their look out post - as Maxine said - a Watch Tower??

The sunset image is beautiful and it reminds me of sunset over Morecambe Bay - our own most beautiful sunset on the Lancashire Coast. I have some nice photos of my own of the sunset over Morecambe Bay - from when I lived there. Will have to seek those out and post them some time.

See y'all later,

Carole Very Happy

Carole, looking forward to your sunset posts. Maybe this could be a Beagle Log topic. I have some great sunset photos from Guam

-------

In the early years of WWII there was great concern about German saboteurs being landed by submarine. The tower in back of me is typical of the watch towers built in the central Atlantic states. Towers were only equipped with phones & radios - no armaments.

There were in fact two incidence of Germans being landed, one in New Jersey and the other in Florida (I think it was Florida). The saboteurs were Germans who had live in the US and were fluent in the language and customs. I forget the details, but the landing party in New Jersey was observed. There was a falling out among the agents and one turned himself into the FBI. Both groups were captured in relatively short order.

Most of the remaining towers are located in federal or state parks. My son and I think they would make great beach houses. They have withstood many hurricanes, have great views, and a great potential to be reconfigured internally (Brian is an interior designer – designs use of interior space, not interior decoration). You could have four levels: storage, sleeping, living, and partying.
