| Frasier, an American sitcom staring Kelsey Grammer was enormously popular in the US during the 1990’s. It was by far the best sitcom during that time winning numerous awards. It is being aired in Great Briton (http://www.frasieronline.co.uk/). The primary cast of characters includes:Dr. Frasier Crane, a pompous, snobbish, and overly intellectual psychiatrist, is a radio broadcaster dispensing wisdom to the masses. Dr. Niles Crane, Frasier’s brother is also a psychiatrist and like Frasier, is pompous, snobbish, and overly intellectual. He is also very neurotic.Martin Crane, Frasier’s father, is a retired police officer and of the three Cranes is the only one with a firm grasp on reality. Martin was injury in the line of duty, hence his retirement.Roz Doyle, Dr. Crane's radio show producer is a woman with an active romantic life. Daphne Moon, a recent immigrant from England, employed as a physical therapist for Martin soon assumes many housekeeping and cooking duties in order to justify her continued stay The question for the day is “what city in England does Daphne come from?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Don

| Hi again Don, Born in London....... ???Jane Leeves, British actress, Daphne Moon in Frasier Born:18th April, 1961 Yes - I used to sometimes watch Frazier & can remember the young woman with some strong regional English accent - but can't remember whether it was Cockney-ish- or Northern-ish. But I think Daphne, the character, was supposed to have been born in London - so probably it was Cockney-ish!! Here's an old News page about the actress Jane Leeves, dated 2001........ >>Link>> BBC News Monday, 31 December, 2001 "Leeves set for bumper pay-day"___________________________ |

| Carole,An interesting response to the question I had not thought of. My question was where is Daphne (the character) from? There are several British sitcoms aired in the US, some from the 70's that are being re-run for the 3rd and 4th times. These will lend themselves to future Beagle Log topics. What other American sitcoms are popular in England? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Don

| Hiya JFS & Don, Aaaah Manchester Oh heck - you'd think I should have known that - its my region!! No - she wouldn't have a Cockney accent if she was from Manchester Don, she'd have a northern accent. Do you have our Coronation Street Soap in USA - That's Manchester!! Now you've reminded me - yes - Daphne did have a Northern accent - & I found it sounded really comical on an American show!! ho ho ho Well done JFS and...... great to see you. I left a note for you the other day on the chit-chat topic - either yesterday or day before - wondering how you were going on after the floods. Best USA sitcom in recent years, for me, has been.... "Friends" = Mega Brilliant!!! See you later aligators, Carole |
