PostSubject: The Beagle Log, 2 October 2007 - Puzzle   Mon 1 Oct 2007 - 23:56

Years ago, I taught a contract inspection course. One of the items I used was a variation of the following puzzle to get students to think outside the box.

The objective is to draw four connecting straight lines through each green square without lifting the pencil.

I've modified this slightly so you can tell me at which square you start and stop. For example C3 to G7: G7 to C7: C7 to C3 and so on. (No, this is not the right answer Smiley ).

Question Can you solve the puzzle?
Note, this is an old puzzle so if you know the answer just say so but do divulge the answer.

Hola Don!
Am I right in thinking that 'outside the box' is the clue?
Adios Gillian

Hi Don,

Just popped in for 5 mins, and will be back again later.....
tried to do this earlier!! Shocked must be a "trick" question????

So I'm thinking now - that you must have to do the same thing on every one of the 9 x green boxes - separately???

... opposed to how I'd originally thought about it - which was... that the 4 x connecting straight lines had, at some point, to run through each of the 9 boxes - ie - run through every box???

The solution is:
B3 to I3
I3 to C9
C9 to C3
C3 to G7

Thought you'd like the answer before bedtime.
