| I’d like to try something a little different – a weekly discussion of a popular TV series. Each posting will focus on one series. Series may be current of no longer aired. This would provide a place to recommend watching or to warn off fellow Smith Chatters from those series you feel don’t merit a recommendation. Comments are open to anything that strikes your fancy: plot line, actors, or events that relate to your own experiences. Chatters are encouraged to suggest a series they would like to see as topics of future posts.
To kick this of, how about:
MIDSOMER MURDERS
This is one of our favorite series. The series is not being broadcast in the US at this time as far as I known. Repeats were being run Sunday nights but were discontinued early this summer. We went on-line and purchased the first season, then the second, then…….we now have seven seasons of DVDs. Last time I checked there were nine seasons available.
Midsomer News reports that filiming of season 10 is being wrapped up, season 11 is underway, and season 12 has been commissioned. Unfortunately, none of these series are projected for release in North America at this time. Hopefully public demand ($$$) will turn this around.
Hamlets such as Badgers Drift appear to be charming places until on realizes the murder rate is higher there then in most large cities. I’m guessing at the start of a show if it is a one body or multiple body episode and if so, how many bodies.
The acting is good, scenery is great, and the story lines are interesting. For a murder/mystery series on the comic side, this rates an 8 or 9 on a scale of 10. And, one of the recurring directors is a Smith - Peter Smith
My nomination for next week’s series is the Nero Wolf series. What are your nominations? _________________ Don |

| Hello everyone! Yes when you want to escape from the real world for a while this is a great series. Unfortunately it goes out on ITV and the adverts seem to take up more time than the story line. It is 'chocolate box' pretty and in that sense is about as far removed from our real life as anything can be. In England we live on a main road with ambulances, fire engines and police cars, all with siren´s blaring, dashing up and down all day (and sometimes night) long. We had a 'drive by shooting' and a chemical spillage on the road in the last 2/3 months so perhaps we are more like Midsommer than I thought!! Here in Spain life is more peaceful although the locals shooting rabbits cause something of a stir from time to time! (Well, we think its rabbits and not each other) We also suffer from low flying aircraft when they are crop spraying because we have an orange grove in front of us. How about 'Waking the Dead' or 'Silent Witness' for some future discussion? Adios Gillian |

| Hi everyone I like watching Midsomer Murders too. We have had some real life murders in my town also. So I prefer to watch programmes like...LOST and other similar shows. But I do enjoy watching NEW TRICKS. JFS |

Gillian, what is ITV? Is this the regular broadcast channels or cable/satellite service?
Most viewers in the US, have the choice of straight broadcast that are the traditional 5, 6 or 8 or so channels. Most communities also have access to cable that include the broadcast channels as well as several hundred (depending on the service you subscribe to) other channels. Basic service will provide about 100 channels depending on the provider. Satellite has a similar offering as cable, is available to almost everyone, and is a competitor to cable.
Midsomer Murders, when it was on, was in a 2-hour time slot. On DVD, each episode is approximately 90 minutes: 25% of the 2-hour slot was devoted to commercials (adverts). DVD is the way to go!
When we first moved to Centreville, it was a quite country community. Today it has been engulfed by the metropolitan area along with sirens, shootings, and all the big city nonsense.

Series suggested for future discussion are: 1. Waking the Dead 2. Silent Witness 3. New Tricks 4. Nero Wolf
Let’s see if anyone else makes a recommendation and then I'll pick one for this coming Monday. _________________ Don |
