 | Subject: FAQ: How to share Certificate/other Document - large image Fri 21 Sep 2007 - 10:19 | |
| Hello members, Following earlier Announcement >>> >> Maximum Width of Images in Posts = 480 pxls >> I've received a few queries.
FAQ: I want to post a copy of a Certificate or other Document, to share with other members. If I reduce the size of this, it becomes illegible. Any suggestions?
Instead of inserting the image in your post, you can include a text link/hyperlink to the URL of the full-size image. Then, after clicking on the link - there should also be a Zoom facility.
(nb added at Oct 07: please send me private message if you would like any large images uploading to Smith Project Filestore - for the purpose as outlined above)
Example: October 1927 : The Royal Life Saving Society (Patron: His Most Gracious Majesty the King; President: The Rt.Hon Lord Desborough, G.C.V.O) ELEMENTARY CERTIFICATE Awarded to Fred Cottam Blackburn Sch. S.A. : St. Thomas Boys' School For passing the elementary tests of the Society in Swimming. Object During Life Saving & & Resuscitation of the Apparently Drowned. Chief Secretary (signature) William Henry. Dated Octr 1927 Link >> View Image The above is one example from the Topic: >> COTTAM Fred, Blackburn 1924-1931 Certificates Found >> There are also other similar examples within that topic.

| Suggestion: Go to a photo sharing website (like Flickr) that permits free photo hosting, paste your image there. That site will create a .jpg link for your picture that could be posted in your message. By clicking the link, it would open a new page to the image. |

| Hello Helixlinks,
Thanks very much for your suggestion. Yes, that is quite acceptable, if anyone wants to upload copies of large documents, eg certificates, to Flickr or other similar sites, or image servers, and include the URL link in your Topic.
But otherwise, you have the option of having them uploaded to the Smith Project filestore, for which you would be given a URL which can then be linked to your Topic. I've now inserted an additional note about this - in my original message above (nb added at Oct 07: please send me private message if you would like any large images uploading to Smith Project Filestore.......)
For the smaller/thumbnail version of the image, for posting in your Topic besides the link - you can use your free Servimg image server account here at Smith Chat. (but note that images input to your posts from your servimg account, must not be clickable, due to the risk of abuse)
Everyone who registers at Smith Chat is given a free Servimg account. Accessible by clicking on the button displayed at the top right of the posty. Login to your servimg account using your Smith Chat Username and password.
